Africa Higher Education Institution Rankings (AHEIRs)

The Africa Higher Education Institution Rankings is the first comprehensive, African-led system for assessing universities across the continent.

Developed by a consortium of higher education partners and now stewarded by The Education Collaborative, AHEIRs provides a fair and context-driven framework to understand performance, strengthen quality, and increase visibility.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a globally recognized, African-led benchmark that strengthens quality and accountability in higher education. By centering African contexts and priorities, AHEIRs supports institutions to learn, improve, and drive meaningful impact across communities and economies.

Governance Council

The Governance Council is the highest oversight body of the Africa Higher Education Institution Rankings. It safeguards credibility, transparency, and alignment with Africa’s higher education priorities. Composed of seven leaders from across the continent, the Council provides strategic direction, upholds ethical and data standards, and ensures methodological rigor. Members serve fixed terms, operate independently, and remain free of conflicts of interest. Through its stewardship, the Council ensures the Rankings remain fair, neutral, and responsive to Africa’s higher education ecosystem.
